Do This Before Reading The Bible!

The word of God is a gift. You know why? Basically, because it is one of His way for us to get to know Him and His promises and purposes for our lives. Can you imagine how the Almighty, most gracious, incomprehensible God wants to reveal himself to us? Gifts are supposed to be treasured and enjoyed. But who among us treasures and enjoys the word of God every day?

God wants us to know Him but do we want the same thing? Reading the Bible is essential to every believer. However, many Christians will certainly agree that it’s not that easy to study and comprehend the Word of God. It’s not easy. Yes. But it’s never impossible. This is why wisdom and revelation are important.

In Ephesians 1:17, Paul said that “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

This video defined wisdom as the application of knowledge, but we can never apply something that we do not know of. That’s where revelation comes in. Revelation, based on the video, is the insight and knowledge that comes from God to you. Paul said that “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father…” Therefore, revelation basically comes from God, not in our own understanding, but it is God giving us a glimpse of who He is, it is basically God communicating with us.   Our God is a generous God, he will not withhold anything from you, only if you ask.

One thing that we can also get from Paul’s prayer in the book of Ephesians is this: wisdom and revelation is not just a spirit but the Spirit. Jesus before he ascended to heaven he promised his disciples the Holy Spirit. In John 14: 17b-18, “But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” As believers, the Holy Spirit is in us. Therefore, the Spirit of wisdom and revelation is in us. It is possible for us, as believers, not just to have insight and knowledge from God but also to apply that knowledge.

It is possible to know the incomprehensible God. In fact, it is His desire that we get to know Him. Are you willing to take that step of getting deeper into the Word of God? Will you pray the prayers that Paul prayed as you approach the word of God?
